Principal's Corner

Welcome STAR Foxes

Dear Parents and Students,

It is with great pride and excitement that I write this letter of introduction to you as the newly appointed Principal of Marion Intermediate School.   I feel truly blessed to be the instructional leader of such an outstanding school community and welcome you and your student to our school. I have a great feeling of joy and satisfaction in following such a wonderful leader, Ms. Sweeney.

As an introduction to you, I possess 21 years of educational experience. During this time, my experiences include teaching middle school language arts for ten years, being a middle school curriculum facilitator for six years, a middle school assistant principal for curriculum and instruction, and my most recent position as the assistant principal of Marion Intermediate School for the past three years. I am married to my husband, JD, and we have a wonderful son, Justin, who is engaged to be married.

The school year is upon us and with it comes the excitement and opportunity to set new goals, make new friends, and develop new habits, which will lead to academic, social, and emotional growth.  My motto for the 2016-2017 school year is “Stars We Are, Near and Far.”  All students at MIS have qualities that make them a star, whether they are academic, artistic, athletic, musical, social, or technological.  And by combining all these star qualities, MIS students will excel this year and far into their future.  Our faculty and staff are dedicated to ensuring your child receives an exceptional education to bring out their star qualities.

My priorities as principal of Marion Intermediate School include:  increasing student achievement through challenging and rigorous instruction; creating a positive culture of learning where our “stars” excel; and increasing parental involvement.  Student achievement is paramount for our children to be successful in the 21st century, and we are dedicated to instructing your child with engaging, though-provoking, and exciting lessons.  We are committed to making MIS a warm, inviting, and nurturing home away from home by creating an atmosphere of happiness, my theme for the year.  But we cannot do this alone.  You are your child’s personal cheerleader.  Parent involvement is an important aspect in every child’s education and is the primary factor in a student’s success in school.  We need your help, as parents, to get to know your child’s teacher, visit the school and your child’s classroom, and offer suggestions to help make MIS the top performing school in South Carolina.
