Hello!

My name is Corea White and I am excited to be your guidance counselor at Marion Intermediate School where we believe in every child’s success, every day. We want your S.T.A.R. Fox to Stay safe, Take responsibility, Act respectfully, and be R eady to learn. In order to help them do this, we have a guidance curriculum which covers 3 areas:

Learning to Live

Learning to Work

Learning to Learn

As a guidance counselor, I am certified to address social and emotional issues in order to bring about your child’s highest degree of self-esteem. Counseling services are carried out in 4 ways:

Classroom Guidance - Lessons are chosen for each grade level based on the most current prevailing issues to explore why there is a problem, explain steps to proper action, discuss positive and negative consequences of the behavior, and goals for the future.

Individual Counseling is done for students to receive one on one explanations and steps to learn how to deal with specific situations.

Group Counseling – 2 or more students meet with the counselor to enhance social interaction and improve communication skills.

System Support collaborate with other professionals and community leaders, make referrals to outside agencies, provide additional information to parents, act in crisis situations, and serve on various committees in order to increase a student’s quality of life and promote a positive school climate.

Counselors:

·         Counsel with students individually and in groups

·         Collaborate with other professionals and community leaders on various committees

·         Consult on issues that are relevant to a child’s age, stage of development, and circumstances

·         Observe students in their classroom setting

·         Support parents, students, and teachers in an effort to bring about positive changes

·         Serve as testing coordinators

I believe that one of my platforms is to impact the lives of children by increasing their self esteem and awareness.  To accomplish this, I have created a guidance program that promotes modeling positive behavior & praising positive choices by teachers (Leaders) & students (leaders) in order to teach, encourage, reinforce, and sustain good behavior through guidance lessons that pertain to real life and address current issues that students face through weekly, bimonthly, and monthly activities.  This is why I call my guidance initiative: Leaders 2 leaders because we are Leaders nurturing student leaders

Please feel free to contact me; I am available anytime you may need to talk or ask a question (843) 423-8345 ext. 3252. Together we can make a difference, because this is NOT only your child’s future but also their today!
